American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AlPS) At Villanova University in Pennsylvania, USA. The Institute was inaugurated by Prime Minister Z.A. *Bhutto on 21 September 1973. It is administered by a board of trustees representing thirty-seven US universities and the Pakistan American Foundation. The Pakistan government and the US Education Department provide major financing. The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and others al 0 subsidize the institute. Experts in Pakistan studies plan the AlPS research work (including R. Braibanti, Hafeez *Malik, L. *Ziring, Stanley *Wolpert, Craig *Baxter, J.H. Korson, and Charles *Kennedy).
The institute is represented in Pakistan by the Director of the US Education Foundation. It regularly delegates research groups and specialists (including professors from US universities), and conducts field research on current social, economic, political and cultural-linguistic problems. The AlPS cooperates with the leading Pakistani universities and scientific centres and frequently organizes seminars and conferences on Pakistan.
