(APP) A news agency set up in 1948 modelled on the Karachi department of the Associated Press of India. It functioned for some time as a private agency and later came under government control. APP has its headquarters in Islamabad with a network of offices in all administrative centres of the country.
It transrnits daily about 50,000-60,000 words to its subscribers in Pakistan and about 5,000 words to subscribers abroad. APP has agreements on exchange of information with news agencies abroad; it is a member of the Pool of News Agencies of the Non-Aligned Countries and Organization of Asian and Pacific News Agencies.
