A red limestone monument of Pakistan's seventeenthcentury architecture in Lahore. It is one of the largest mosques in the world, and was built by Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir in 1670. It follows a symmetrical ground plan in the shape of a closed rectangle of walls surrounding an inner court measuring 176 metre by 176 metres, and a prayer hall under three onion-like domes of white marble. At the corners stand octagonal laminates ending in cupola kiosks. The entrance pavilion is set 0:1 a high stepped stylobate and lies opposite the entrance to the *Lahore Fort.
