Hashmi, Sayyid Zahur Shah (1926-85) PoetlWriter. A Balochi writer, poet, scholar and public figure. Hashmi's work is an important contribution to the development of contemporary *Balochi literature and the Balochi literary language. Particularly noteworthy is his short novel Nazuk. In 1983, the Sayyid Hashmi Academy was set up in Karachi. Its president was Ghulam Rasul Mulla, a Balochi poet and literary critic. The Academy is responsible for publishing the Balochi literature of Hashmi and other authors. The Academy is preparing a large dictionary for publication: Khizana-i-Sayyid (' Sayyid's Treasures').
