Ali, Chaudhri Rahmat (1895-1951)
Statesman. The founder and leader of the Pakistan National Movement in 1933. He came from a family of small landowners and graduated from the University of Punjab. Starting in 1915, he published the journal 'The Crescent' for several years.
He received degrees from Cambridge and Dublin Universities. In 1930, Chaudhri proposed to establish an independent Muslim state in the northwest of British India. He named the proposed state 'Pakistan'. He visited Lahore and Karachi in 1948.
