A set of hollow bronze bells containing iron balls. The bells are connected to each other by rope and are tied to a dancer's ankles, wrists, or waist. The ghungra chimes during each movement of the dancer. Wearing ghungru symbolizes a performer's membership in the dancers' group. The ghungru has been widely used since the earliest times in numerous rituals and by shaman to drive away evil spirits.
