start off with a few chords and get your fingers used to the guitar and then do some scales and once you get good at them start picking up and down on the string pick down and then up then the next string down and then up on all the strings.I am a true believer of the saying practise makes perfect .hope it works.

It sounds like you're a fairly accomplished guitarist who loves to play, but want to expand your knowledge a bit. I'm with you man! I've been playing hard rock music for about 4 years and I've sort of established a similar problem recently. I always find myself playing the same songs over and over again and use the same soloing techniques. But I started learning basic arpeggios not to long ago and they really helped me spice up my playing a bit. It's even a good idea to incorporate part of a arpeggio into your playing, instead of trying to play the entire thing with flawless precision and speed like some shredders do. Learning scales is also a very good idea. Also, listen to how some of your favorite solos are structured. That will help you establish a better ear for how to integrate individual parts effectively into an entire solo.Hope that helps and good luck!
