Isnt plastic surgery forbidden under Islam? Then why is so popular in Islamic nations?

My Iranian friend tells me that almost everyone in Iran has had a nose job including her sister-in-law and a few friends, who all live in Iran.I myself am from Pakistan and was browsing through a few Pakistani fashion magazines and almost every other page was an ad for cosmetic surgery. I thought the locations were elsewhere but they were in Pakistan.Apparently its a very large fad over there. But I was under the impression that plastic surgery/cosmetic surgery was forbidden under Islam (unless for medical purposes). Is it not forbidden? What do you make of this?Oh I looked it up and found this site that said it was wrong for beautification purposes:http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?pagename=IslamOnline-English-Ask_Scholar/FatwaE/FatwaE&cid=1119503543166Da Man: then why doesnt the government just shut those offices down? I mean they have to be a bit obvious dont they especially if there are ads in magazines.I am judging an entire peoples. I should have clarified I suppose. What irks me is that the government is willing to restrict you in so many ways but allows for something that is obviously not allowed to persist.I dont like hypocritical things.Saraa: Really? I mean you cant even do your eyebrows?Im an atheist but my family is muslim and my mother and sister do hair removal, facials, manicures, pedicures etc.I thought they'd be okay since they arent really altering you permanently. But nose jobs and breast implants etc. They would be more obviously restricted.Sina: I know no one country is representative of an entire religion.I just used Iran and Pakistan as examples because those were the only ones I knew much about.Im sure my friend exaggerated the extent of it but even the people she knows is a lot who have had plastic surgerySaraa: So if I started selling alcohol in Pakistan or pork etc. would I be allowed to do so because its capitalism?

Homosexuality is forbidden in islam, but you see many foolish people in islamic nations doing it.So...just because some muslims do it, doesnt make it halal. (and we dont trust anything shias do, especially since one of their deceased leaders allowed bestiality and infant sex)but I think your friend overexxagarated on the amount of people who do such things, because only the rich can afford that, and the average iranian has nowhere near the means to get a nose job...also

It is haraam. I have been to India, and some of my relatives are in Pakistan, so i do know what you are talking about. All of my aunts get facials and get their eyebrows waxed when my mother, living in America, does not do all of this.Honestly, it may be popular, but it's wrong. Cosmetic/Plastic surgery is changing the way Allah tala made you, altering his creation. It is strictly forbidden.EDIT // The government doesn't shut these facilities down simply because they are making money.EDIT again : lol, well, basically they do more fashion than we do. People would think that living in America, we have lost Islam, and have become all western. But that's not the cast. Although none of the women in my family have gotten plastic surgery or implants (eww), putting pounds of makeup on your face and putting layers of nail polish isn't much better.EDIT x3 : Well, it depends. I don't think you could go out selling it in the open, but hey, they do sell it. It's not that common in comparison to beauty and fashion, but you could probably sell it for a little while.. before you got busted of course. They are more serious on certain issues.

salam alikom sisno sis,the government can not shut it down because it's not illegal nor haram to be a plastic surgeon...and dnt forget there are times where plastic surgery is needed like in burn cases or obvious deforming or post-surgery scars..etc.it is forbidden for doing it for no necessary..but as anything else that Muslims choose to ignore and satisfy their desires....may Allah guide us alledit:abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Allah had cursed those women who tattoo and who have themselves tattooed, those who pluck hair from their faces and those who make spaces between their teeth for beautification, (changing what Allah has created).plastic surgery if it wasn't to cure a damage it is ''changing what Allah has created''

Unless there is a medical reason to have it done, yes it is forbidden.

No, I don't think plastic surgery is haram, but if you have surgery to beautify your face, you have to cover your face when you are in the presence of non-mehrams.

The countries you named are not Islamic...actually not one exists today though KSA is the closest to being one. There are countries that are majority Muslim but they for the most part are not run by Islamic law.Iran is shia and I don't know their ruling on plastic surgery. Also, most countries that are majority Muslim still sell alcohol and pork. :-(
