Hasan, Khwaja Sarwar (1902-73) Statesman. Khwaja Sarwar Hasan was educated at Aligarh and Cambridge and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple. He practised law at Aligarh and later became Professor of Law at Delhi University. He participated in the Pakistan Movement. He became Secretary of the Indian Institute of International Affairs in Delhi in 1944. At the time of partition he shifted the Institute to Karachi with all its movable assets including its library of rare books. In August 1947, it was established as the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PITA) in Karachi. In 1948 Sarwar Hasan was advisor to the Hyderabad Delegation to the Security Council. In 1955 he became joint secretary of the historic Bandung Conference. He represented Pakistan several times at the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council. He was advisor to the Constitution Commission in 1961 and Visiting Professor of Government at Columbia University in 1963. On account of his expertise in international affairs, foreign policy, and international law his advice was widely sought in official and academic circles and he represented Pakistan on these issues in conferences and conventions throughout the world. As the founder Secretary of the PITA he edited the Pakistan Horizon for twenty-five years.
