Bedil Rohri (1814-72)
Poet. Bedil Rohri (real name, Faqir Kadir Bakhsh) was a *Sindhi poet, who wrote in both Sindhi and Persian. He had a good command of Arabic, *Urdu, *Hindi, *Siraiki, and probably Sanskrit. *Sufism strongly influenced his work. His three-volume collection of *Sufi poetry includes Wahdat-Nama ('The Book of Unity'), Sarod-Nama ('The Book of Songs'), and F araiz-i-Sufia ('A Sufi's Duties '), consisting of poems in the genre of *doha and bait.
Bedil Rohri's work is also rich in Sindhi folk poetic forms, such as *wai, *kaji, and others. Many of his verses have been set to music and have become popular songs in *Sindh. Bedil Rohri is a follower of Rumi and Sachal *Sarmast.
