Vista and 512mb or RAM do not go well together. To answer your question, yes, XP will run better on that computer. If you want to keep vista though, you can just install more RAM and it should work fine.

Before changing operating systems, I would suggest getting more memory for your computer. 512 mb is not enough for Vista. Vista uses loads of memory. I would suggest getting at least 1 or 2 GB memory. Good luck.

Vista should not have come on a computer with only 512mb of ram and a 1.6ghz processor. The minimum specs for vista are 1gb ram and at least 1ghz processor though you really need about 3ghz. I'd say your problems are more hardware related. Try uninstalling a few programs and killing startup items that you do not need. Also run a virus and spyware scan as if its gone slow overnight its probably a virus. Windows XP SP£ would definetly run a lot faster on your computer but it's very hard to downgrade unless you have Vista Business. If you really want to have XP though, backup your data and format the hard drive and install.

You can't really run Vista or XP with such a small amount of RAM. I'd recommend 2 gigabytes, but you can get by with 1 gigabyte.XP is faster IMHO, but I'd upgrade the RAM first, and then see if it's still slow. After that, you could always switch to XP.

Vista is much slower than xp. So, you may go for xp for speeding up your pc. Before formatting your pc you must take back up, else you will lose your data.

"i have 512mb ram and 1.6 ghz [Core 2 Duo?]."That's the real reason your PC is slowing down. Your PC barely meets Vista Home Premium's minimum hardware requirements, you need 1 - 3 GB RAM to get good performance. 3 GB is very good."Windows XP Performance Edition SP3" There's no such OS. XP comes in two consumer versions, Home or Pro. So, stick with Vista, but get 3 GB RAM.
