Dayaram, Gidumal (1857-1927) Writer/Statesman. Dayaram was a *Sindhi poet, writer and public figure. A graduate of Bombay University, his work is permeated with ideas of enlightenment and represent a synthesis of *Sufism, Vedanta, and Sikhism. His work covers a broad range of socially significant themes, such as the spreading of enlightenment, the campaign for women's emancipation and the democratisation of the literary language. The novelty of form in Dayaram's works had a great influence on the development of *Sindhi literature. His main works include didactic dialogues Satta Saheliun (' Seven Friends'), a collection of philosophical poems Manaja-Chabuk ('The Curse of the Mind', 1923-26) the first vers libre in Sindhi literature, a number of literary studies of Sindhi classics, and translations of philosophical-ethical compositions from Sanskrit and medieval Hindi.
