Cohen, Stephen P. (1936-)
Writer. Director of the Programme of Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS), and Professor of History and Political Science at the University of Illinois. He first visited Pakistan in 1977 and subsequently made numerous return visits.

Dr Cohen has written or edited a total of eight books, including The Pakistan Army and The Indian Army (revised edition, 1990), and co-authored Brasstacks and Beyond: Perception and Management of Crisis in South Asia (1995), which is based on extensive interviews with and first-hand accounts of Pakistanis, Americans, and Indians. His edited books include Nuclear Proliferation in South Asia (1990) and South Asia after the Cold War: International Perspectives (1993). Other works include a monograph contrasting regional and non-regional perceptions of South Asian security issu~s Every Fifth Person: Perception of War and Peace In South Asia, and a study of the possibility of a 'peace process' for South Asia, India: Emerging Power Washington, 2001.
